Hello Lovelies,

So today we are going to learn how to make a reversible scoodie! A reversible scoodie is a scarf with a hood that can be worn both ways. Scoodies are a new trend that can be scene pretty much everywhere. They are great for the winter and perfect for cold nights dancing under the stars.

I will be using the fabric that I dyed from my last tutorial "Electric Bunching Tie Dye." It is a 100% cotton jersey knit with a slight stretch. It feels like a sweatshirt or t-shirt material. It is nice and light weight and when doubled layerd it is the perfect comfort. You can use pretty much any type of fabric you like, just make sure that you adjust your needle accordingly. The tie dye fabric that I used is available at the Freedom Marie Etsy Shop. You can choose from an array of colors!

So first things first, start out by laying out your fabric and pattern pieces. Here is a diagram of what to do. You can make your own measurement adjustments on your hood and scarf to make it all your own. My fabric was 60" wide, if you are using a smaller width adjust fabric and pattern pieces accordingly so that the scarf is on the fold.

Once you have your pattern pieces layed out follow these directions...

Step 1

Cut:

2 Hoods in print 1

2 Hoods in print 2

4 Pockets in print 1

4 Pockets in print 2

1 Scarf in print 1

1 Scarf in print 2

Step 2

Press everything making ends as straight as possible. (My fabrid rolls a lot, just press to the best of your ability).

Step 3 (Pockets)

  • For each pocket match up opposite print right sides together and sew on one side.

  • Press edges down, turn right side out and press seam for a clean fold.

  • Pin pocket to right side of scarf with the print you want showing facing right side up.

  • Sew pocket to scarf.

Step 4 (Hood)

  • Place print 1 of the hood right sides together and sew top edge to bottom edge. Than do the same to print 2 of the hood.

  • Place right sides of hood together than sew the top of the hoods. When turned right side out the are reversible. (In my video I do it a little bit different but both ways work)

Step 5 (Scarf)

  • Make notch in center of print 1 scarf.

  • Match center bottom hood seam of print 1 with notch on print 1 scarf, right sides together. Pin and than sew hood to scarf.

  • Pin right sides of print 1 scarf with right sides of print 2 scarf, matching up pockets. Make sure to pin right side of print 2 scarf with right side of print 2 hood.

  • Sew all layers together (do not sew bottom of hoods together). Leave a 5' opening on the center bottom of scarf.

Step 6 (Now to make it reversible)

  • Pull right sides out through opeing at bottom.

  • Fold raw edges inward and top stitch folds together.

And Wala!!!
